Visiting A Museum - More Than Just a Day Out

Museums can enhance, enliven and reinforce what is traditionally taught in the classroom. The fundamental way in which they do this is through the study of objects, photographs and archival records.

It is very easy to take a class to a museum and let them wander around exhibits for the day, but a museum visit can be so much more than that. With a little preparation beforehand, your visit can form the basis of classroom activities and learning for the school year.

Museum school visits are designed to promote creativity and innovative thinking and provide an out-of-the-ordinary learning experience in a 'safe' environment.

In this section is a list of more than 20 museums which you and your pupils can visit and learn from. With each museum you'll find a brief description of its activities as well as examples of the exhibits that can be found there.
