Northern Ireland’s museums have played an active part in recording the memories of people who lived and fought through the war. The People section of the website is rich in reminiscences, with many written stories, and audio and video interviews.

Join Anne Doherty as she recalls the day war broke out or listen to Robbie Crockett's fond memories of VE Day celebrations. Watch Paddy Gillespie recount smuggling tales or marvel at how Maeve Kelly was a witness of the German U-boats surrender at Lisahally.

Many thanks to the Somme Heritage Centre, Derry City Council, Strabane District Council, the Causeway Museums Service, Ballymena Museum, Carrickfergus Museum, the Heritage Lottery Fund and the BBC's Your Place & Mine and WW2 People's War websites.
